Dust Collector Bags: Sparks
Sparks, live particles or burning embers can wreak
havoc in any baghouse. Fires, explosions and damaged dust collector
bags usually result. Synthetic fibers, whether thermoplastic
like polyester or non-flammable like aramids, can melt,
degrade, catch fire or pyrolyze when a burning particle
is driven onto the surface of a filter media, supported
by the draft of the fan.
Solutions include:
BWF CS30/31 for light sparks
FireGuard® for light to medium sparks
Pyroguard® for medium to heavy sparking
Designs
such as FireGuard protect the base filter media with
a top layer of spark resistant fibers. PyroGuard
is a unique surface coating containing graphite to
protect against sparks and pyrophoric dusts. CS30/31 are PTFE coatings which are effective against light
sparks.
At best, these finishes will only mitigate a severe
problem and prevent a small problem from causing
a major fire. Mechanical solutions and fire suppression
systems are the most complete approaches to sparks,
embers or live particles.
