Dust Collector Bags: static electricity
Static electricity can form in dust collector bags due to:
• extremely dry air
stream
• air to dust, dust to air, dust to duct movement,
0all causing static to form
• properties of the dust itself (ie: plastic resins)
Static is potentially hazardous, causing explosions
and poor dust release. Solutions include:
• anti-static
chemical treatments
• epitropic (carbonized or metalized) fibers
• felt with stainless steel fiber blends
• bags with copper or stainless steel ground wires
Of
these, the most effective, under all operating conditions,
is BWF ExCharge® stainless steel felt, available
in polyester and polypropylene felts. Cake release
treatments such as CS17® and SSR can be added to further
aid cake release.
